nagaya paper lab is a bookstore and production studio founded by Yoshikatsu Fujii, with a focus on photobooks. Throughout his career, Fujii has remained committed to the photobook as a medium and has produced numerous works in this form. Beyond selling books, nagaya paper lab aims to be an open space for experimenting with and exploring the possibilities of photobooks through printing, bookbinding, exhibitions, workshops, and other activities.

This exhibition brings together all of the photobooks Fujii has created to date.

The exhibition includes Red String, which explores his parents’ divorce and the memories of his family; the Hiroshima Graph series, which traces his family history and memories of war in relation to Hiroshima; his latest work, Five Before the Fall; and Nagi, a photobook that serves as its prologue. In addition to the photobook itself, selected works from Five Before the Fall will also be presented on the walls.

A photobook is a medium through which we can physically engage with photographs. By holding a book and turning its pages, readers can experience and share the artist’s story as it unfolds through photographs, text, paper, printing, and binding. Through the distinctive editing and book design of each work, this exhibition invites visitors to experience forms of expression—and the unique appeal—that can only be conveyed through the medium of the photobook.
