Kishin Shinoyama was a photographer born in Tokyo in 1940. Active across a wide range of fields including advertising, magazines, entertainment, and documentary photography, he is known as one of the leading photographers of postwar Japan.
Olele Olala is a photobook published in 1971 as a special edition of Playboy by Shueisha. Composed of photographs taken at the carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the book captures dancers, the heat of the city, and the bodies and crowds that emerge within the atmosphere of celebration, combining both color and black-and-white images.
An early overseas reportage work made by Shinoyama at the age of 30, the book reflects his encounter with the Rio carnival. Including the layout and composition by Shozo Tsurumoto, it is a volume that combines a magazine-like lightness with the energy of its time.
