Hiroshi Nomura was born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1969. He studied oil painting at Tokyo University of the Arts and has presented works that move across multiple media, including photography, drawing, and manga.
Exdora is a reprint edition related to Nomura’s “EXDORA” series, which he began developing in the early 1990s. Based on the premise that a fictional creature called “Exdora” appears within real landscapes, the work creates a distinctive world in which everyday scenes and fiction overlap.
“EXDORA” is one of Nomura’s major early works, crossing photography, drawing, and narrative elements while unsettling the boundary between reality and unreality. In 1997, he presented THE GENESIS OF THE EXDORA WORLD at Taka Ishii Gallery, and this book offers a glimpse into the origins of an image world that has continued since the early years of the artist’s practice.
