Nobuyoshi Araki is a photographer born in Tokyo in 1940. He has continued to work with personal everyday life, love, sexuality, life, and death as consistent themes, and is internationally recognized as one of Japan’s leading photographers.
This book brings together Araki’s long-standing exploration of love and life. Composed of multilayered images ranging from private everyday scenes to sensual photographs, it strongly reflects the sense of life and death, desire and loss that runs throughout Araki’s work.
As the title Theater of Love suggests, the book moves through the ambiguous boundaries between reality and staging, document and fiction. Encompassing the relationship between photographer and subject, as well as the act of photography itself, this volume touches on the core of Araki’s photographic expression.
