Jin Ohashi is a photographer who has published works dealing with deeply personal themes such as family, sexuality, and death. Since the 1990s, he has developed a distinctive form of expression within Japanese photography.
Me no Mae no Tsuzuki is Jin Ohashi’s debut photobook, published in 1999. Based on photographs Ohashi had been taking since his late teens, the book brings together several years of time, including images of family members and people close to him, everyday scenes, and the attempted suicide of his stepfather.
Beginning from personal experience, the book looks at life and death within intimate human relationships, family memory, and events that suddenly appear within everyday life. The closeness of the photographer’s distance to his subjects, and his gaze as if accepting events as they unfold, leave a strong impression.
