CHOW San is a Hong Kong photographer who works primarily through photobooks and zines. He approaches streets and travel with a dry, slightly offbeat sense of humor, often finding something amusing in the most ordinary situations.

How to Lü Xing in Hong Kong 2016–2025 brings together photographs made while travelling through Hong Kong between 2016 and 2025. As suggested by the title — “Lü Xing” meaning “travel” — moving through and experiencing the city is at the heart of the book.

But this is far from a serious travel guide. Alongside familiar places are strange signs, food, people encountered on the street, unexpected details, and scenes that simply caught CHOW San’s attention. Much of the humor comes from the way these photographs are selected and placed together, making the book feel less like a guidebook and more like wandering around Hong Kong with the photographer himself.

Spanning nearly a decade, the book records a changing Hong Kong without becoming overly serious about it. Detours, coincidences, and small absurdities become part of the journey, turning the book into CHOW San’s own playful way of showing how to enjoy the city.
