Daisuke Yokota is a Japanese photographer born in 1983. His work incorporates the photographic process itself, using development, scanning, rephotographing, printing, repetition, and degradation as active elements in the making of the image.
SITE is one of Yokota’s early self-published works. Produced as an experimental zine, the book turns the process of copying and reproducing images into part of the work itself, allowing the photographs to shift and deteriorate through repeated transformation.
Blurred figures and landscapes, strong contrast, and rough, grainy images unfold throughout the book, creating the sensation of memory and time losing their outlines through repeated reproduction. It is an important early work that already shows Yokota’s interest in the materiality of photography and the processes through which images are made.
