Bruno Quinquet is a Tokyo-based photographer and publisher. Since 2007, he has worked through Bureau d’Etudes Japonaises, producing photographic works and artist books based on observations of Tokyo’s urban landscape and everyday life.
〒 YUBIN is an ongoing series begun in 2021, taking its title from the Japanese postal mark “〒” and the word “yubin,” meaning postal service. Adopting the imagined viewpoint of a postal worker, Quinquet walks through Tokyo ward by ward, covering streets and back alleys while photographing postboxes, delivery scenes, and small urban details connected to the postal system. Five volumes have been published so far, focusing on Chiyoda, Shibuya, Sumida, Minato, and Taito wards, and the project is still in progress.
〒 YUBIN selection is composed of images selected from the series to date. Bringing together elements of photographic typology, snapshot photography, and mail art, the project looks at Tokyo through the network of the postal system and the daily movement of delivery routes. The design, in which each image functions like an individual postcard, also echoes the postal theme of the series.
