Toshiya Murakoshi is a photographer born in Sukagawa, Fukushima Prefecture, in 1980. While based in Tokyo, he has continued to photograph his hometown of Fukushima since 2006. He has received awards including the Newcomer’s Award from the Photographic Society of Japan and the Sagamihara Emerging Photographer Incentive Award.
Burn After Seeing is composed of landscapes of Fukushima that Murakoshi continued to photograph after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Looking at the land after the disaster, the book turns a quiet gaze not only toward visible changes, but also toward the time and memory that flow through the place.
Composed of photographs and texts, this is a book that reflects Murakoshi’s sustained engagement with Fukushima and the traces left in its landscapes.
