Richard Prince is an artist born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1949 and based in the United States. Through methods such as rephotographing and re-editing advertisements, magazines, and existing images, he has explored American consumer culture and media imagery.
4 × 4 is an artist’s book by Richard Prince, published by Korinsha Press in 1997. Edited by Richard Prince and Taka Kawachi, the book also includes an interview with Prince by Larry Clark at the end.
Fragments of American imagery that Prince has continued to engage with—such as the Marlboro Man, bikers, pop culture, and sexuality—are brought together through photographs and text. In a compact format, the book offers a view of Prince’s methods of quotation, repetition, humor, and the appropriation of existing images.
This is the Japanese edition published by Korinsha Press in Kyoto. Text in English and Japanese.
