Viviane Sassen is a photographer based in the Netherlands. Working in both fashion and art photography, she has produced numerous works centered on color, light, and the body, informed in part by her experiences in Africa.
Die Son Sien Alles brings together a series photographed in Cape Town, South Africa, between 2002 and 2004. The title means “The Sun Sees Everything” in Afrikaans, and the work mainly focuses on interiors such as homes, shops, and bars in Cape Town townships.
Through interior scenes composed of advertising posters and flyers on the walls, furniture, everyday objects, and the light entering these spaces, the book quietly brings into view traces of people’s lives and the distinctive sense of color rooted in the place. It is a book that strongly reflects Sassen’s sensitivity to color and light.
