Karianne Bueno is a Dutch photographer. Taking memory, dreams, and stories connected to place as starting points, she creates works that move between reality and fiction.
This book follows Doug, a man who has lived for many years in the forests of Vancouver Island, Canada. After meeting Doug in 2010, Bueno continued to visit him and develop the project over time.
What began as a record of a person living apart from society gradually developed into a multilayered narrative about the memories, legends, and accumulated time embedded in the land. Combining photographs with fragments of diary entries and found materials, the book quietly moves between documentary and storytelling.
