Hawaii is a photobook composed of photographs taken by Daido Moriyama in Hawaii between 2004 and 2007. Produced over the course of approximately three years, the series was published by Getsuyosha in 2007.
Set in Hawaii, a place widely known as a tourist destination, the book contains 291 black-and-white photographs capturing streets, people, shop windows, hotels, beaches, plants, cars, signs, and other subjects through Moriyama’s distinctive perspective. Rather than presenting only the bright image of a resort, the photographs reveal the island’s light and shadow, its urban expressions, and the atmosphere of the place.
A substantial volume in which Moriyama’s snapshot method unfolds through the setting of Hawaii. The book also includes a text by Moriyama himself at the end.
