Eugenia Maximova is a Bulgarian photographer. Working with themes such as history, society, and identity, she has produced projects centered primarily on the Balkan region.
This book is composed of photographs of kitchens across the Balkan Peninsula, together with recipes for dishes familiar to each place. Maximova approaches food culture as a shared element across the region, depicting the Balkans—often discussed through war and ethnic conflict—from a more intimate perspective.
Through the everyday space of the kitchen, the book offers a glimpse into people’s lives, family memories, and the histories and identities rooted in place. While a photobook, it also has the accessibility of a recipe book.
