Siân Davey is a British photographer. Drawing on her experience as a psychotherapist and as a mother, her work often focuses on family, intimacy, and the emotional dynamics of everyday life.
Looking For Alice brings together Davey’s photographs of her daughter Alice and their family. Alice was born with Down syndrome, but the book is not presented as an explanation of that fact; rather, it looks at Alice’s place within the family, and at the love, vulnerability, and closeness that surround her.
Quiet domestic light, the distance between family members, and the expressions of children are carefully held throughout the book. The clothbound hardback cover, with the image printed onto the fabric-like surface, gives the object itself a soft and delicate presence.
