Salaryman Project Business Schedule 2013–2015 is a publication developed from Bruno Quinquet’s Salaryman Project, a body of work centered on Tokyo’s corporate world. The project began after an encounter in 2006, when Quinquet saw a suited office worker carrying a briefcase and walking quickly along a mountain trail near Kawaguchiko, an unexpected scene that led him to observe the poetic strangeness of salarymen in Tokyo.
The book is not a conventional photobook, but takes the form of a Japanese professional agenda. With one photograph placed for each week, the work unfolds through the seasons, following salarymen as they appear in streets, parks, stations, business districts, and small moments of urban life.
Rather than showing faces or clear individual identities, the photographs often focus on backs, shadows, reflections, distant figures, and fleeting gestures. The salaryman appears as an everyday yet elusive presence, constantly slipping away from the camera’s gaze. Combining documentary street photography with a conceptual structure, the series stands as one of Quinquet’s important early projects.
