Bego Antón is a photographer from Bilbao, Spain. Her work explores people’s beliefs, stories, and relationships with things that cannot be seen, moving between documentary practice and imagination.
The Earth Is Only A Little Dust Under Our Feet is a photobook made in Iceland, where Antón visited people who believe in the existence of elves, trolls, fairies, and huldufólk, or “hidden people.” Traveling across Iceland, she met people who can see or believe in these beings, constructing the book through portraits, landscapes, and the stories she heard from them.
Rather than photographing invisible beings directly, the book traces a world between reality and imagination through the words and gestures of those who believe in them, as well as the places they point to. Combining photographs, illustrations, and text pages, it is a highly narrative volume.
