Alec Soth is a photographer born in Minneapolis, United States, in 1969. Traveling across America, he is known for works that capture places and people with a quiet sense of distance, and has published some of the most significant contemporary photobooks, including Sleeping by the Mississippi and Niagara.
This book is The Frank Album, a limited-edition work by Alec Soth. Published in 2013 by Little Brown Mushroom and Goliga Editions, it was created in conjunction with an event held in Tokyo.
At the event, participants selected from prepared texts and photographic materials, editing and arranging them to create albums with their own different stories of “Frank.” The album itself contains 19 anonymous photographs, and is accompanied by a booklet by Alec Soth, a signed Type-C print, and the remaining photographic materials used during the production process.
Combining a photobook, text, print, and the editorial act of the participants, this special work offers a sense of the narrative quality that runs throughout Soth’s practice, as well as the feeling of memory that emerges from an accumulation of photographs.
