〒 YUBIN is an ongoing series begun in 2021, taking its title from the Japanese postal mark “〒” and the word “yubin,” meaning postal service. Adopting the imagined viewpoint of a postal worker, the project follows Tokyo ward by ward, walking through streets, back alleys, and residential areas while photographing mailboxes, entrances, thresholds between public and private space, and the small urban details that appear along delivery routes.
〒 YUBIN vol.3 SUMIDA-KU is the third volume in the series, focusing on Sumida ward. Although Sumida is now strongly associated with Tokyo Skytree and its tourist image, it is also an area where older shops, small factories, homes, nagaya row houses, and narrow streets still carry the atmosphere of everyday life. Through the perspective of postal delivery, Quinquet draws attention to details of the city that might otherwise be passed by.
The postcard-like format and design are also characteristic of the series and resonate directly with its postal theme. While it is a photobook, it also has the feeling of leafing through a small bundle of mail, allowing the reader to see Sumida not through landmarks or broad city views, but through fragments of urban life encountered in the movement of everyday delivery.
The edition of 45 copies had sold out, but one deadstock copy has recently been found and is being offered here as a special one-copy availability.
